Ein HowTo, wie man eine standard GeForce-Karte durch eine einfache Treibermodifikation zu einer Quadro-Karte macht.

1.Intro

Durch diese Treibermodifikation wird es dir erlaubt, auf deiner GeForce-Grafikkarte
professionelle Funktionen freizuschalten. Diese sind bereits auf deinem Chip verbaut,
werden aber von dem Standardtreiber nicht genutzt.
Durch die Installation des Quadro-Treibers werden Antialiasingfunktionen, OpenCL und DirectCompute freigeschaltet.

Dadurch kannst du unter anderem CUDA-Hardwarebeschleunigung für Adobe-Applikationen (Premiere, AfterEffects, Photoshop) erhalten.
Maya, 3ds Max, CAD, SolidWorks, CATIA und viele weitere Anwendungen können jetzt die Arbeit auf deiner Grafikkarte verrichten,
die ja mit Grafik bekanntlich besser umgehen kann, als deine CPU.

Als kleiner Beweis:
Meine GTX 275 mit Quadro Treibern. Sie unterstützt jetzt OpenCL und DirectCompute.

Darunter ist meine Zweitkarte (6700 XL), ebenfalls mit CUDA und PhysX, obwohl es CUDA damals noch nicht einmal gab.

Wenn du die Quadro-Funktionen nicht benötigst, solltest du diesen Treiber nicht installieren.
Im Normalfall sollte der Treiber Gaming-Performance nicht verschlechtern, doch es kann vorkommen.

Wer kein Geld für eine echte Quadro-Karte hat, erreicht mit diesen Treibern quasi dasselbe.
Um herauszufinden, welche Quadro den selben Chip besitzt, wie deine GeForce, kannst du auf

Ich übernehme keinerlei Garantie für diese Modifikation. Fehler bei der Konfiguration hast alleine du selbst zu verantworten.

Dieser Treiber wird nicht mehr WHQL-Zertifiziert sein! Installation auf EIGENE Gefahr.

2.Anleitung

Um festzustellen, ob deine Karte von dem Treiber unterstützt wird, musst du deren Name in Inhalt 4 unten finden.
Aktueller Stand: 22.4.2010

!! Dieser Mod funktioniert nur mit Treibern für Windows Vista und 7 !!

1. Aktuellen Quadro-Treiber herunterladen ( http://www.nvidia.com/drivers ) und mit 7-zip/WinRAR o.ä. entpacken. (32/64 Bit je nach System!)

2. NV_DISP.inf öffnen und wie folgt bearbeiten:

2.1 64-Bit

Wenn du ein 64-Bit Betriebssystem besitzt, folge diesen Schritten :

3. unter [NVIDIA_SetB_Devices.NTamd64.6.0] und bis vor die nächsten Klammern [ ], z.B [NVIDIA_SetA_Devices.NTamd64.6.0]
den unten gegebenen Inhalt Nummer 1 einfügen. Bestehende Einträge werden gelöscht.

4. dasselbe unter [NVIDIA_SetA_Devices.NTamd64.6.0] und bis vor die nächsten Klammern [ ], z.B [NVIDIA_SetA_Devices.NTamd64.6.1].
Hier fügst du Inhalt Nummer 2 ein. Bestehende Einträge werden gelöscht.

5. ebenso zwischen [NVIDIA_SetA_Devices.NTamd64.6.1] und bis vor die nächsten Klammern [ ], z.B [DestinationDirs].
Dort wird Inhalt Nummer 3 eingefügt. Bestehende Einträge werden gelöscht.

2.2 32-Bit

Wenn du ein 32-Bit Betriebssystem besitzt, folge diesen Schritten :

den unten gegebenen Inhalt Nummer 1 einfügen. Bestehende Einträge werden gelöscht.

4. dasselbe unter [NVIDIA_SetA_Devices.NTx86.6.0] und bis vor die nächsten Klammern [ ], z.B [NVIDIA_SetA_Devices.NTx86.6.1].
Hier fügst du Inhalt Nummer 2 ein. Bestehende Einträge werden gelöscht.

5. ebenso zwischen [NVIDIA_SetA_Devices.NTx86.6.1] und bis vor die nächsten Klammern [ ], z.B [NVIDIA_SetB_Devices.NTx86.6.0].
Dort wird Inhalt Nummer 3 eingefügt. Bestehende Einträge werden gelöscht.

6. Damit der Treiber noch einen vernünftigen Namen für deine Karte anzeigt:
6.1 Durchsuche die NV_DISP.inf Datei nach [Strings]
6.2 Unter [Strings], entferne alles hier zwischen:

von
NVIDIA_B = "NVIDIA "
[hier alles entfernen]
bis ausschließlich
NVUninstall.desc = "NVIDIA Display Driver"

Das heißt, die letzten Zeilen inklusive der Folgenden müssen bestehen bleiben:

NVUninstall.desc = "NVIDIA Display Driver" (oder ähnlich)

5. An der selben Stelle den Inhalt Nummer 4 einfügen.

6. Danach NV_DISP.inf speichern

7. Setup.exe ausführen und den Treiber wie gewohnt installieren.

Schön und was bringt dir eine normale Grafikkarte mit einem Quadrotreiber laufen zu lassen.
Du kriegst deswegen auch keine high End Karte.

Quadros gibt's genau so kleine (billige) und große wie bei den Gaming Karten.
Quador's basieren auch auf dem gleichen Cipsatz, haben jedoch einige Befehlserweiterungen drauf vor allem im OpenGL bereich der unter Vista relativ uninteressant geworden ist.
Und durch den Treiber kiegist du Erweiterungen auch nicht drauf.

Also meiner Meinung nach absolut Sinnlos.

Wie gesagt bringt der Treiber nur wirklich etwas, wenn man Quadro-Funktionen benötigt. Und wie mein Screenshot zeigt, wird OpenCL und DirectCompute sehrwohl freigeschaltet.

jetzt muss ich meinen senf auch mal dabeigeben:

1.) JA, es ist möglich, eine GEFORCE-karte in eine QUADRO-karte per softmod zu "transformieren", jedoch bringt das effektiv GAR NICHTS. die "quadro"-leistung der karte ist, selbst wenns eine high-end-geforce ist, ca. 10 - 60% NIEDRIGER (!!!) als eine typgleiche originale quadro (wurde auch im internet irgendwo getestet, aber fragt mich bitte nicht nach dem link).
2.) dem system wird zwar vorgegaukelt, es sei eine quadro-karte vorhanden, daher wird auch die unterstützung für openCL und DC angezeigt, jedoch GIBT ES KEINE! wenn du einem VW-käfer eine verkleidung von nem lamborghini aufsetzt, hat er trotzdem keinen V8-motor ....
3.) über evtl. schäden wird in diesem beitrag gar nicht erst gesprochen. man modifiziert immerhin sensible bauteile, indem man "fremde" software (für die hardware selbst fremd) aufspielt. läuft beispielsweise eine geforce xyz mit genau der selben spannung wie eine vergleichbare quadro? wohl kaum, wenn, dann glück gehabt.

meine referenzen:
ich übertakte seid nun ca. 10 jahren meine hardware. im gegensatz zu den meisten OC-kiddies aber innerhalb der spezifikationen der hardware. das gelingt durch tagelange suchen und monatelanges tüfteln. einfach so nen anderen (hardware-fremden) treiber zu installieren ist wie "einfach mal ein 230V-kabel an die grafikkarte halten". evtl. gehts gut, aber meistens gehts inne hose.

Nix für ungut, aber das thema ist nicht professionell erarbeitet worden. risiken müssen IMMER bedacht werden.

Es fehlen für einen richtigen Vergleich Benchmarks: vorher / nachher und am Besten ein Vergleich mit einer originalen Quadro mit gleichen Spezifikationen.

Deine angegebenen Modifikationen sind nett für den Bastler zu Hause, allerdings total unbrauchbar für alle professionellen Anwender, da diese nur vom Hardwarehersteller zertifizierte Grafikkartentreiber verwenden sollen / dürfen. Dann sind alle Maschinentreiber vorgegeben und zertifiziert!

Ist eine nette Idee, aber wie meine Vorredner schon gesagt haben, eigentlich aus den o.g Gründen unbrauchbar für Profianwender!

Das ist nicht richtig. Wenn die Modifikation korrekt durchgeführt wurde, dann ist bei gleichen Taktfrequenzen auch die Leistung identisch.

Äpfel und Birnen. Die GPUs von Geforce und Quadro sind absolut identisch. Der einzige Unterschied ist eine andere Hardware-ID, welche den Treiber dazu veranlasst, ein paar Parameter zu ändern und ein paar zusätzliche Features freizuschalten (und diese ID wird extern erzeugt, nicht in der GPU). Mehr nicht.

Im Prinzip richtig, allerdings werden hier weder Spannungen verändert noch Taktfrequenzen erhöht, das Risiko droht hier allenfalls der Software-Installation.

Nichtsdestotrotz halte ich den Sinn derartiger Modifikationen für fragwürdig. Gerade im professionellen Einsatz sind die paar Kröten für eine Quadro-Karte kaum der Rede wert, denn schon alleine der Preis der Software übersteigt den Hardware-Preis idR bei Weitem. Und auch die Stundensätze für entsprechende Arbeitsplätze verbieten meist einen Einsatz von derartigen Frickel-Lösungen. Für Hobbyanwender reicht dagegen meist auch eine Geforce-Karte aus, um irgendwelche Studentenversionen professioneller 3D-Anwendungen zu betreiben.

Das glaube ich nicht, wohl eher dürfte Dir GPU-Z Mist anzeigen. Das dem so ist, sollte eigentlich schon sofort beim Blick auf den Screenshot der Geforce 6700XL offensichtlich sein. Denn die 6700XL (eine von Medion umgelabelte Geforce 6600) basiert auf dem alten NV43, und dem fehlt schlichtweg die Unified Shader Hardware, die für CUDA/PHysX/OpenCL notwendig ist. Unified Shader kam bei Nvidia erst mit dem G80 (Geforce 8 Reihe), und auch erst ab da funktioniert die CUDA/PhysX/OpenCL/DirectCompute-Unterstützung. Was Du letztlich geschafft hast, ist, einfachen Programmen wie GPU-Z vorzutäuschen, Support für CUDA/PhysX usw. wäre vorhanden. Das ist jedoch nicht der Fall.

Eine Geforce GTX 275 besitzt zwar die notwendige Hardware, aber die Modifikation, um sie zur Quadro zu machen und alle Quadro-spezifischen features freizuschalten ist idR deutlich aufwendiger und beinhaltet die Änderung der Hardware ID. Mit Deiner Methode kannst Du auch die GTX nicht zur Quadro machen.

Und was die "Quadro-Treiber" angeht: das sind letztlich stinknormale Forceware-Treiber, die lediglich bestimmte Zertifizierungen durchlaufen haben. Die Forceware-Treiber funktionieren genauso mit Quadro-Karten, und die "Quadro-Treiber" mit Geforce-Karten. Manchmal schmeisst Nvidia aus den "Quadro-Treibern" die IDs der Geforce-Karten raus. Was Du machst, ist im Prinzip nichts Anderes, als diese wieder hinzuzufügen. Deswegen "denkt" der Treiber aber noch lange nicht, dass er eine Quadro-Karte vor sich hätte (das wird übrigens auch nicht einfach über die inf-Datei geregelt).

Ich halte die ganze Aktion für absolut sinnlos. sorry.
