Microsoft: Windows Server 20H2 will be the last version

Microsoft points out the end of support for Windows Server version 20H2 on its release page and at the same time announces the end of the SAC versions. The SAC versions of Windows Server were updated every half year and equipped with new features. Microsoft is now finally discontinuing this type of release. With this they probably react to the increasing update problems in the last time.

Windows Server 20H2 will no longer receive security updates after August 9, 2022. Microsoft therefore suggests switching to the LTSC channel or Azure Stack HCI.

In the future, there will only be the Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) as the primary release channel.

It seems that the idea of a continuous update, as Windows 10 has exemplified for several years, is over. Instead, Microsoft is going back to complete long-lived releases every 2 to 3 years. Hopefully the service packs won't come back face-wink
