Windows2Go ist nun scheintot

Microsoft hat mit Win10 v2004 Windows to go entfernt (sprich: der eingebaute Wizard zur Erstellung wurde entfernt).

Wer weiterhin Windows2Go auf die offizielle Weise (auf unterstützten Sticks wie z.B. diesem) nutzen möchte, braucht ein Win10 v1909, da ist der Wizard noch drin.

Alte Sticks kann man problemlos auf Version 2004 Enterprise aktualisieren. Wer das Vorgehen dazu benötigt, dem kopiere ich es hier rein:

• install the hyper-v feature on your pc
• connect your win2go drive
• open diskmgmt.msc, set the win2go drive to offline
• open hyper-v and create a new generation 1 machine without a hard drive and without installing anything, yet
• add a physical hard drive to that machine: your win2go drive. Add a 2nd CPU and add a dvd drive as well, your Win10 v2004 ISO
• start that machine, it will boot your win2go windows.
• when logged on, open regedit and set the Dword32-value PortableOperatingSystem in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control to 0
• perform the inplace upgrade
• afterwards, reset the value PortableOperatingSystem to 1 again.
• shutdown the machine and remove the win2go stick

Done, you can boot your win2go Win10 2004 version.

Alternative Methoden sind im Web zu Hauf zu finden, sie gehen natürlich auch mit der Pro-Version. Legal nutzbar ist das Windows 2 Go aber nur mit der Enterpriseversion.
