Microsoft announces Windows 11 with new Start menu

window11

On June 24, 2021 Microsoft has presented the new Windows 11. Via an online event, Microsoft showed what the future of Windows 11 will bring. Due to the leaked version a few weeks ago, we already had a small insight into the innovations. It was therefore exciting to see what Microsoft would finally present.

These innovations come to us: **

  • No more tiles, but a new centered Start menu with new icons
  • Widgets are back, small personalizable windows that can display news, weather report, stock quotes or the like
  • Microsoft Teams is firmly integrated into Windows 11
  • Microsoft Store has been revamped to accept all types of programs for Windows (Universal Windows Platform (UWP) , Win32, .NET, Java or Atom apps)
  • Android apps run via emulation and can be downloaded from the Microsoft Store (using the Amazon Fire app catalog)
  • Future updates are expected to be up to 40% smaller in size
  • Wireless Connect allows movies to be played on Smart TVs
  • Multiple desktops including snap layouts and snap groups to better organize windows.

Windows 11 should be available as a free upgrade starting Christmas 2021.

The first installation images for trying out are to be released in the Insider Preview program at the beginning of next week. However, Microsoft also announced that these will not immediately contain all new features

Here are the official trailers for the new system:

Here is the complete event (approx. 45 minutes)

We tried to follow the event, which technically wasn't that easy face-smile
Here are our comments about it:

Greetings

So, in a few minutes it starts. I am already curious. I had installed the pre-release version the other day and there were still Windows 8 icons and strange menus. Why does Microsoft take so much time and doesn't finally change that. By the way, the new central menu can also be set to the left via settings.

Microsoft Chief Product Officer Panos Panay greets us and compares the innovations and renovations to his house with the further development of Windows. Then there are technical problems with the stream. Oops, too many users online.

Uhh, but Microsoft still has to practice. Now I have the scenes from the beginning with the renovation of the house and then the stream stands again. I think heads will roll.

Take a look at Apple, they do a good job with streaming. It's really hard to follow the Microsoft stream.

We're now at minute 22 and I've seen maybe a total of 10 minutes. In my opinion, Microsoft should stop here and put the whole thing as a download.

There is currently no more live stream.

Under the Microsoft event page, the live stream has given up.

Gaming should become more beautiful and faster - SDR/HDR comparison:

On Windows 11, Auto-HDR games are supposed to look better (we know this from the Xbox Series X). Direct Storage (should relieve the CPU) will also be integrated. In addition, the Game Pass subscription will now be natively integrated into Windows 11 via the Xbox app. The xCloud and Crossplay are also coming to Windows 11.

Now Panos Panay comes back on stage and introduces the new Microsoft Store. Thereby very nice words fall like.

"Developer: You are Heros".

Thanks face-smile

The new Microsoft Store can accommodate any type of app (Universal Windows Platform (UWP) , Win32, .NET, Java or Atom programs). Also, in the future, a developer will be able to choose their payment service, so there will be no commission due to Microsoft. That sounds good face-smile

Now comes the head of the company Satya Nadella

Everything needs to be as simple as possible, apps, devices and with the new generation of Windows 11 this is of course possible. The world needs more open platforms, he mentions that several times, for learning, for working and for playing.

After 5 minutes, it's already over. He is looking forward to the things people will do with Windows 11. Ok, he said a lot and nothing, there was hardly anything new.

There was also no word about the fact that there is now a Windows 11 version after all, even though they said at the time that Windows 10 was the last version.

The stream or show is over. A timer is now displayed, announcing a next event "Whats Next for Windows - Commercial Briefing" in 44 minutes.

Technically this was unfortunately very poorly done by Microsoft, the live stream kept breaking down. I'm going to watch the whole event on Youtube, maybe I'll find some new features of Windows 11. So far, what was shown is quite sobering, similar to the leaked preview of Windows 11. Except for a few new icons and a centered redesigned menu, I didn't find anything earth-shattering right away.

No idea what makes Windows 11 technically different from Windows 10. There are a few new features, but almost everything only in the area of optics. Maybe you have noticed something. If, then post it to us face-smile
