Windows Server 2016 error Message "Online - Windows PowerShell not installed"

Dear Community,

I have a the following problem with our Windows Server 2016 Standard:
In the Server Manager under Remote Desktop Services it is stated in the column Manageability "Online - Windows PowerShell not installed".
This error also hinders the installation of Remote Desktop Services which I require actually rather urgently.
However, PowerShell is installed and works very well, I could not find any means for reinstalling / repairing Windows Power Shell.
The use of the measure recommended for Windows Server 2012 (Install-WindowsFeature -Name PowerShell –ComputerName [name]) did not work.
Would you please suggest any helpful means?
Thank you very much for your help.

Best regards, Michael

Hi,

Zitat von @wolf2006:
In the Server Manager under Remote Desktop Services it is stated in the column Manageability "Online - Windows PowerShell not installed".
The picture shows IIS. Underneath that it does show Powershell. Are you managing the Server remote? Or ist the picture taken from the Server in question? Acoording to the picture you do have AD DS installed. On the same machine or should we understand it?

This error also hinders the installation of Remote Desktop Services
Which role are you trying to install and what other roles are already installed on that machine?

which I require actually rather urgently.
If it is really urgent then contact a computer emergency service center or your local computer service partner.

The use of the measure recommended for Windows Server 2012 (Install-WindowsFeature -Name PowerShell –ComputerName [name]) did not work.
Because it ist already installed, at least you are saying so.

Would you please suggest any helpful means?
What is already installed and running on the machine where you are trying to install some of the required moduls / roles for Remote Desktop Serverices?

Peter

Dear Peter,

thank you very much for your fast response.

Let me kindly reply to your questions

1) I have attached another picture showing the error message in the RDS-section. The picture is taken directly on the Server (not remote). The Server is a domain controller.

2) RDS roles: I am trying to install all relevant RDS roles to let users connect via RDP (simple virtual sessions, nothing specal)

3) Urgency: Not life-critical, so I posted it here.

4) Yes, PowerShell is installed (and comes with Windows Server 2016 any way) but the error message states otherwise.

5) The RDS-installation broke down due to the PowerShell issues, so nothing installed so far.

Best,

Michael

What other roles are installed on the server where you are trying to install RDS roles?
RDS is not intended to be installes on a DC. Maybe this can help you even though it is not recommended to install the RDS roles an a DC.

That is a not supported issue. You are standing by yourself there.

Besides, just saying things like " "Online - Windows PowerShell not installed"" is not really a error message. It doesn't really help anyone.

You have Server 2016 Standard which allows for the sole Hyper-V installation and two server 2016 VMs. One would be your DC, the other your RDS server. You can and should put youre Hyper-V backup solution on the parent partition, everything else belongs in a VM.
